There are lots of us out there who believe we do.
Does that mean we are right?
Not necessarily.
In fact, it has been our experience, that there are a ton of people walking around with the label "Christian" who can only tell you how to know God via their own intellectual treatise on the concept.
Essentially, they will share with you what rules and laws to abide by. This will sound like a series of dos and don'ts and you'll probably want to gag. Maybe you've already tried that method and failed.
Perhaps, like many of us, you have begun to wonder if all this head knowledge has created a disconnect in true relationship. Sure, you may know what the Word says, but do you actually know what it feels like to be a Child of God? To be radically loved by the King of Kings?
We have long been missing the heart ratification necessary to be the Body that Christ died to enable us to be, a pure Bride, for Himself.
We go about spouting the law and living whitewashed lives. Sure, we may look good on the outside, but inside exists all manner of evil. That makes us no better than the Pharisees and the Bible explicitly tells us that our righteousness has to exceed that of the Pharisees.
Ok, so, to more concisely answer your question since you have put up with this so far, to know God, you have to believe that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. You have to come before Him in complete submission of will and admit that need. Ask Him to forgive you, cleanse you, and fill you with His Spirit. Then be prepared to start dropping some of those familiar habits and ways you've held dear. But, don't be surprised that the things He wants to alter first are the ones no one else can see.
Here's where Christianity messes up, right? We start telling people what habits and stuff to drop before we even know if there's been a heart change, a rebirth.
Thusly, they try to get rid of their sinful behaviors based on their own strength and desire to do so. This is a recipe for failure. You cannot do anything apart from Him. We've been there. You aren't alone!
Basically, if you want to know God, recognize your position, but know your worth! You are completely incapable of anything without His assistance and even the breath in your lungs is from Him. But, you are worth more than many sparrows and He takes care of all of them.
And, one more go at explanation if that didn't hit you in the right spot...
Sin (His laws are written on your mind and heart, you know what is right and wrong) separates us from Him. All sin is, truly, only against Him, as David declares in the Psalms. Being separated from God is eternal punishment (inclusive of Hell). Jesus died (as God had planned from the beginning) as a sacrifice, wholly blemishless, for the sins of the world. Those who believe in Him and His death and resurrection as the Son of God, are given the ability to cross the chasm that sin creates.
Jesus died for us not because He felt sorry for us. Not because He had a pity party for His creation. No, He died for us because He loves us and doesn't want us separated from Him and His Father. If you can't feel and experience that love in your daily life, you don't know God. Get in touch with us, we can help!
